If you’re a fan of romance stories, this holiday season treat yourself to The Love List, a series of interconnected stories about four best friends who come up with an unusual plan — the “love list” — to find romance and how they find true love in a small town. To put it simply, each drops a name of a nice guy their friends may like into a basket, and each chooses one…with unexpected consequences.

In “Love Uncorked,” by Jennifer Conner, we meet Tegan Taylor, owner of the Que Syrah Syrah wine shop in Vine grove, the heart of wine country. She chooses Richard, but their date turns into a disaster. Richard is not at all the type of man she’s looking for. But, then, a handsome Australian cowboy shows up, and things take a turn. Maybe the love list wasn’t a bad idea, after all.

In “Love Found Me,” by Sharon Kleve, Chloe Miles never thought she could find true love, especially with someone so different from her…until she meets Mitch Brodin as he steps foot into Roy’s Pet Rescues looking for advice on how to care for new born kittens. Chloe is vivacious and unpredictable, while Mitch is methodical and predictable. Like her, he never thought fate would bring him someone so opposite, especially when he hadn’t planned on being so lucky.

The Love List was a pleasure to read, the perfect novella collection to read at the beach or curled up in a warm sofa in front of the fire this holiday season. Written by four award-winning authors, the stories will make you laugh and will warm your heart. The writing is light, fun, and uplifting, the characters ones to root for. If you enjoy light romance stories with fun plots and compelling heroes and heroines, you’ll want to give this one a try.

Four romances under one cover

Who would not enjoy a story about four women who end up dating a man someone else chose as a "not for me," but "maybe just right for you" suggestion? Things don't work out quite as planned, but the plot makes for interesting reading. My favorites were Book 2 by Sharon Kleve and Book 4 by Joanne Jaytanie. A nice way to spend a few hours.

This was a great collection of stories. I sincerely hope that they do a round two of each of these stories in the future. I loved the creative way each were brought into the scene. Great romance read.

Could not put it down!

An excellent read, especially for those who enjoy short stories that are just as satisfying as their lengthier counterparts. The stories for the most part are on the darker side, they will delight the horror crowd. I found myself halfway through the book without taking a break as each story was well rounded and engrossing. The writers are local so as a New Englander it is always fun to read about local sites which brings an added level to the tales. The poetry and artwork fit well with the genre and help to enhance the flow of the book. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this book so much and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to spend an afternoon getting lost in someone else's imagination, it will make the time fly by. Kudos to the writers and the team that put this collection together!

Nice piece of Works.A definite must read!

This book may of just fell in my lap but I must say, at a time when so many sci-fi / fantasy /Horror writers produce two or three good books and then start losing their originality, Mark has chosen some very clever talents, who stands apart from the crowd. This Anthology just got more imaginative, more clever and more creative with every new story in its pages. From Ghost Stories to Carnival Tricks, unique view points, told from unlikely perspectives make this a Very entertaining collection of work. Add to that the poems and Illustrated art works by even more talented people and you have the whole package, guaranteed to bring you to places you never thought of. I will be looking forward to the next one.

Become wine smart for life, read this book!

I loved this book! I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about wine, but this book proved me wrong. It's factual and fun and full of interesting info. Included are great maps and details about Napa Valley and Sonoma County, even better was the section on "wine & food pairings." This included information on what you should be eating with both red and white wines, so helpful!! (Plus do you know how to pronounce "Gewurtztraminer?" The author includes instructions on how to "sound out" every kind of wine made!!)
Do you want to learn more about the the "wine making" process? See Chapter 7, so interesting!
The author also dispels Wine Myths and Misconceptions, blew my mind a little bit here, but I learned a lot!
The book is full of colorful pictures, including the interesting "Wine Aroma Wheel" on pages 22-23.
And my very favorite part of the book includes some comments about Gender Differences and who is the better wine taster, based on sense of smell. I know you'll enjoy this book/guide/companion! It's perfect for pairing with a bottle of wine and taking to a dinner party for a hostess gift or give to your local wine "experts!" They'll even be impressed with how much they learn..

A Must Buy for the Average Guy

I've always felt overwhelmed by the whole wine thing. I know when I like a wine, but knew nothing about any of the "talk" that goes with the wine; until I read this book. Now I can quickly look up what I want to know and find easy to understand language. This has become a great gift to my friends who like wine but knew little about it. The authors make it fun and easy to learn more wine facts.

Excellent guide! Well-organized and written, it was a pleasure to read. What I learned increased my confidence in selecting and pairing wines when I entertain. This is my go-to gift for friends before they go wine tasting and it makes their winery tours that much more enjoyable. It's also a great gift for business colleagues.

I highly recommend this book to give your own keister a nice ...

My choice of books usually include those that have a brighter, more positive theme to the knowledge I am seeking.  Tuck Kamin’s message regarding the power I personally carry into these next 50 years is exactly what I was seeking.  With so many nay-sayers talking about how they want to do much less after retirement with all their lists of “limitations” makes me want to pick them up and shake some sense into their minds.  Design Your Age gave me greater insight backed up with the research from such powerful age-related scientists giving us boomers a much needed promising future.  Tuck Kamin balances the science with a very keen sense of humor that makes this book impossible to put down.  I came away feeling very empowered and want to give this book to so many of the younger set who want to lock up their parents all too quickly. Also are a handful of those who feel their life is FINISHED before it really has even began!  I agree there is much more in life than what we read in the media.  I highly recommend this book to give your own keister a nice kick to do more, live more and enjoy this life we have.

There is an alternative to aging with fear. Design Your Age is a map in that direction. Tuck Kamin has hit upon a REVOLUTIONARY MINDSET in regards to age. DYA is a workbook for the purpose of becoming a “Potential Being”. A person that lives her life with “a boundless, deep sense of curiosity, purpose and joy.” Tuck’s book is an exercise in training our minds to embrace who and where we are now no matter how old we are. AGE SMAGE is right. Forget about it! I believe that every baby boomer should read this book not just for themselves but for the purpose of knowing how to care for and understand their parents who are now in their 80’s and 90’s. As a society we must stop locking away these POTENTIAL BEINGS. We must learn to embrace the writings in this book for ourselves and for them.

Witty, funny & charming

We've all been there. We've all had those moments were you know, you've made a questionable choice and all that follows that one split second of a minor lapse in your best judgment. Roddy did a great job adding humor and insights from his point of view. As well as, the lessons he's learned in hopes of making a better choice next time around.

Great, quick read & definitely worth it. You won't be disappointed as you giggle out loud with him.

realise it's not that bad and maybe consider the bigger picture

These [very] short stories are simple everyday occurrences, or are relatable to recurring experience in one's life (at least in Western Culture).
I'm almost certain most people will able to resonate with the uncomfortable feelings which pop up in each scenario.

Most of us have had a haircut, gone to get a massage or been out for a meal. But, how often do we learn a lesson from these simple interactions? You don't need anything to have a fairy tale ending to be 'happy'. Let go of being anxious about one, realise it's not that bad and maybe consider the bigger picture.

Sometimes a simple reminder is all you need.

Definitely worth the read.

It’s rare for a piece of writing to actually make you laugh. What stands out immediately in these short stories is that the author has a voice well suited to humor, which is a difficult to skill to find. It requires an ability to pace and style the writing in such a way that it is genuinely funny, and not just a boring recitation of events. Gibbs nails it.

He also has an undeniable eye for the little details. The quirks and oddities of each character are pinpointed throughout the stories, and that’s part of what makes them so enjoyable. Scenes are painted clearly and concisely, but in a manner that feels natural and easily readable. Seeing the world through his perspective is a fun experience, and he even sprinkles a bit of wisdom at the end. It’s short, funny, and definitely worth a few minutes of your time.

This book is obviously a love letter to those of us who gamed

Disclaimer: I am an old gamer from the late 1970's. This book detailed all those games that I played, and many I never got around to playing. My group and I traveled from D&D, through Chivalry and Sorcery to RuneQuest, Traveller, and Space Opera. This book is obviously a love letter to those of us who gamed, had fun, watched our GPA's drop, met friends who are still friends, and expanded our imaginations. I still have many of my old books which my daughters think are "cool", even though Dad is not :). I literally could not put this book down, and appreciate it details a very overlooked member of the gaming world Dave Hargrave and his Arduin Grimoires. I can't recommend this book highly enough, I wish I could give it six stars. Back in the days of college, I remember vividly driving regularly to the gaming store, and counting out my hard saved coins for the latest Judges Guild City State installment, or the latest Traveller book. I remember subscribing to The Journal of the Traveller's Aid Society, and Different Worlds (I still have them), and looking forward to each installment (again to the detriment of my GPA). Going through the racks of gaming material and finding The City State of the Invinvible Overlord and using it as a city for adventure for almost two decades. This book has just the right amount of information, without being overly detail oriented.

Required reading for role players.

Every role player should have this book on their bookshelf. This is especially true if you're a fan of Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, or Dungeons & Dragons. The first hundred pages are devoted to a nicely detailed history of TSR and the impact it had on the industry. Then the author adds on with the histories of other important gaming companies that helped to launch the hobby.

Designers & Dragons is a great value for the price and the information it contains is compelling. Much of what is in this book isn't common knowledge with most gamers, especially the younger ones. Older gamers might remember the news and rumors behind things like the late Mr. Gygax's departure from TSR, but there is so much more detail here than even the older gamers are likely to know. And then there is histories for Judge's Guild, Chaosium, and GDW. Much that information will likely be new to even the old timers.

If you want to know how the modern games came about, this is a fantastic place to start. The details chronicled here would take hundreds of hours to find on your own (and it probably wouldn't be anywhere near as organized or comprehensive). The book is a great historical compilation for a hobby that has influenced an incredible amount of modern media. Well-written and fast-paced, this book should sit next to any dedicated role player's collection. Pop culture fans and role players should all read this book. Seriously, read it now.

I can't wait to get into the next book

I've only ever delved into the history of the tabletop roleplaying history a few times, and this was mainly snippets of information gleaned from books and interviews over the years. I’ve always been fascinated by the early days and the way the industry grew and continues to this day, and I’ve always enjoyed learning about the early days of the hobby. However, I’ve never really had the chance to really find out how it began and what happened to the individuals, games and companies involved.

Thank goodness, then, for Designers & Dragons: A History of the Roleplaying Game Industry.

This first volume of the series covers the 1970s, early days of the RPG scene and it's a glorious if depressing read - glorious in that it's amazing to see how these first firms kicked the whole thing off, their attitude and approach to the fledgling hobby and the almost off-handed way they handled new product. Depressing in that I wish I had been around to appreciate that initial burst of energy and passion.

After the hefty entry on the giant of the hobby, TSR, the book then covers Flying Buffalo, Games Workshop, GDW, Judges Guild, Metagaming Concepts, Fantasy Games Unlimited, Chaosium, Gamescience, Heritage Models, Grimoire Games, DayStar West Media and Midkemia Press. This is followed up by some neat little ‘Did you know?’ comments about the nature of roleplaying in the 1970s – which I found fascinating, as the attitude to gaming really has changed over the decades – and then a bibliography and acknowledgements.

There’s a real charm to this first book as it takes you back to the beginning and it’s not always a nice read; disagreements, rivalries and lawsuits rear their ugly heads as well as the stories of people reaching milestones, enjoying successes and pushing the hobby forward. It was great to read about the beginnings of the hobby but it was just as good to read about the approach that most companies had towards this new pastime. It almost comes across as clueless, sometimes, but the hobby was young and directionless and, coming out of the structured worlds of boardgames and wargames, many of the people involved had no true guidelines on how to approach this new and peculiar hobby.

It’s a solid read and while there may be moments when I felt that the book was simply listing facts and figures – which can’t be helped considering that it is trying to be complete and sometimes the detailed information just isn’t available – I honestly felt I learned something about my hobby and it’s origins. The book doesn’t take sides or root for any single person, game or company (although it does refer to some possible evidence or widely-regarded opinion on certain matters) and it gives the facts as cleanly, and as entertainingly, as possible.

As I mentioned earlier, there may have been times when I felt that the book was just calling out statistics or just reeling off product lines for a certain company’s production period, but even though I may have passed over these periods with a lot less interest than other points in the book, at no point did I feel completely bored or dissatisfied. These were fillers, information blurbs that took me through the workings of the company to make the history complete. All the time there’s cross-referencing and notes on what to read next, sidebars on details about certain things that readers might find interesting and notes that add flavour and background.

Well written, well laid out and, apart from the few rare moments where I felt I was reading material just to get to the juicier parts of the history (everyone loves a bit of gossip, don’t they?), I seriously enjoyed this book. I can't wait to get into the next book, the 1980s, which was my era, the decade when I entered the hobby.
