About the Author
Urja Gaurav is an Indian girl living a less than ordinary life in Singapore. As a 13 year old, she wrote stories giving her a chance to step out of reality and into a world full of adventures, the world of fiction. She enjoys writing as a passion. Being a young person during such an eventful era, she saw and heard things differently and wrote to explore her thoughts. She wrote mainly stories that meant something to her, things based around death, family, tragedies and an occasional fan fiction. Being a child, being an unqualified writer, she never really shared stories with other people except for her parents. She studied under a variety of English teachers, each with a fresh pair of eyes to help her with her writing. She currently studies in UWCSEA East Singapore in Grade 8. She is an alumnus of NPSI Singapore and VIBGYOR High Bangalore, India. She also has keen interest in painting and sketching, she chose one of her works to go with each story in the book. "I wrote short stories to step into a world of fiction, using my inner feelings at the moment to write a strange yet deep story"

A great story.

Ok, I was hooked into this one long ago when I first watched the movie. After a long time I finally decided I wanted to see if the book was better or if the visual effect made for a better story. I'm glad to say both are winners! Joseph Conrad's writing is so descriptive and rich here hat you can easily visualize the environment and the men; both are rich and absorbing, something lacking from many writers. What totally sold me though is that having seen the movie (and how close they were) the visualization was richer and complete with details. Really the combination together is the way to go sinc you get more of the men from the book.

Years ago I watched the film The Duelists , excellent film .It made me curious as to the novel The Duel .The novel is superb , I really enjoyed it , well written and with a surprising ending after all the irrational violence expressed in the multiple duels .
I love Conrad and I am reading other novels written by him that are also excellent

The 1977 Ridley Scott film, 'The Duellists' is a fine companion to the novella (well... in the movie they added a mushy part, lol).

About the Author
ANDREW BORO was born on April 19, 1987 and grew up in San Rafael, California. He studied Spanish in Spain for two semesters at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid, before earning his Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from University of California, Berkeley in 2011. He then rode Greyhound around the United States, sleeping in hostels, couches of friends, and on busses, before working as an English teacher in Daegu, South Korea. In 2014 he moved to Austin, Texas, where he put the finishing touches on this book. Boro was always an amusing kid, with a love for making people smile. Once a star baseball player, he grew up idolizing people who lived life on their own terms, from Jim Morrison, Eminem, and Jack Kerouac, to NBA ballplayers like Allen Iverson and Dennis Rodman, to WWF superstars Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and X-Pac. Before graduating from Berkeley, Boro was failing in high school, and let drugs and alcohol ruin his baseball career, which resulted in him being sent to an emotional growth boarding school in Northern Idaho. It was there, in the company of students from around the USA, where he learned about the vast cultural differences in the world, and traveling became his new high. Shortly after graduating in 2005, he set off to Europe, and the travel obsession continued for the next nine years, all the while, he wrote about his experiences in the form of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Amazing book

Boro knows how to incorporate very real life experiences that everybody can relate to. He is a modern day Jack Kerouac with a simplified writing style that every reader can dive into. GREAT BOOK!

RAW. BUY THIS BOOK!

Although this book is hard to put down, sometimes I had to because I was laughing so hard... and because it made me think about life so hard. Boro is a straight savage with a unique style that is far different from contemporary poets and writers. He tells it like it is, with no concern whatsoever if something comes off as politically correct or not. Those rules don't apply to Boro; his goal is to share captivating, compelling stories about what real people actually do and how they really talk. While he takes readers on traveling adventures, he travels just as much across the whole emotional spectrum. He's raw and uncut. Buy this book--you won't be disappointed.

This 36-chapter collection of poems and short stories takes readers through cities across the United States, Europe, and Asia, as well as deep into the wilderness, where the narrator discovers the wisdom in everyday passings such as: human interaction, relationships, dogs, trees, sweat, and nature. While layered with spirituality, philosophical questioning of societal norms, and contemplations of life, the protagonist, Lanky Killingsworth goes raw and honest when describing his coming of age in the 21st century and dealing with the cultural norms of his generation. From being a teenager discovering pornography with his virgin buddies, to being in his young twenties and searching for love and romance, but instead finding pain and awkward, humorous one-night stands, to boarding Greyhound and taking trips to places for no reason other than to see what is there... he learns that most of the planned events in life aren't the ones that stick out; it is the unplanned, spontaneous, organic events that shape who were are, and provide the most joy. From gay bars and strip clubs in San Francisco, to a vast empty desert called, Joshua Tree, to insightful dreams involving Steve Jobs and Jay-Z, this is a book about living life each day to the fullest and maximizing our human potential. It is a page-turner that you won't want to put down. Perfect for a rainy night by the fire, or on a plane flight.

A commuter's delight - an absolute must read!

Better late than never, I finished Walking Around Solo about 2 months ago and I continue to smile every time I look over and see it perched up on my nightstand. I have had the pleasure to work with the author Andrew Boro at a small little tech company in San Francisco called Yelp, only to find out that not only is he one of the most genuine, real, and down to earth guys, but the kid can write!

After receiving Walking Around Solo from another coworker of ours, it quickly became my new Caltrain commute read. From the first chapter, I couldn't put it down. Like many of the other reviews have written, the book is not only hilarious (mostly because it's entirely relatable) but it will change your perspective about life and help you to see the beauty in the everyday things that we as humans collectively deal with - relationships, human interaction with strangers, and constipation just to name a few.

An hour into starting the book I was already laughing out loud, turned on, and asking myself the deepest philosophical questions of life. Andrew is a a phenomenal writer and his poems and short stories are different than any contemporary works I've read. He is relatable, keeps it raw, uncut, and completely real, and you really feel like you are walking around adventuring life right there with him. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Go read this book!

I once owned a first edition of this book, written in 1849 when she was just 17, dedicated to her best friend Ellen Emerson (daughter of Ralph Waldo) and bound with a more popular 'women's novel' by Mrs. Somebody. I still regret that I let it go for about $7 when it is now worth about $2,000+.

It's interesting of the Quotes by Confusius that you've heard for years you actually know but didn't know they were written by him :) I thought the Book was written fine for giving me the knowledge and Quotes. The Author gave us just a small amount of history and this Book gave me what I wanted. There was information that was repeated yet was very happy with it

More Interesting (No Wonderful) Pieces

It's a Fiction of Adventurous Stories

True this story is fun of romance, love, animals and paranormal events . . .

Author Jackie Anton has done it again! Jackie has written an array of entertaining stories and this is another one added to her mix. This time there's five (5) fantastic tales rolled into one great book. The titles include: "Terra Beyond 2012," "A Tumble in the Snow," "Riding Lightning," "Flash Flood Texas Style," and "A Rainy Night." These short stories of the heart make a great read for the YA genre. Wait, it just does not stop there adults-alike will find it an interesting read as well! The inside scoop of these stories I shall leave for the reader to discover. And it's not a tough read `cause the book itself is only 69 pages. Easy read, right?

But I will comment on the author's form of writing. Be assured, "It's so detailed written." As the story is followed, readers can vividly visualize every scene and characters' outline through her very descriptive style. For each story told, one may feel and believe they are physically carried into the moment for which that story takes place; and lives within its scene. Now, when an author can bring a reader on such level that speaks "Masterpiece," and sheds an insight on the author's gift for writing.

There were a tad editing issues; and a reason it got rated four stars versus her normal five. Shucks though, that does not sway from the overall message of their story. Jackie has done so much to entertain us readers with her many stories - behind the scenes. It never amazes me the stories this author can find to come up with and the manner in which their told. By the way, she has another great storybook in store for her readers. Her title: "BYHT3: Don't Call Me Love," is in the works. This book contains stories about 4 different women. One concerns a young girl, who becomes a woman and is taken away from earth as our planet comes to an end.
The second s about a woman who becomes trapped in one of the winter storms that sweep across the great lakes, and literally attack the American cities on their coasts.
The third is about a young woman who is involved in a road accident during a rainstorm, which becomes a deluge of water in Niagara proportions. She is zapped into the past during the aftermath of this accident.
The forth is about a young woman named Alex, and is an excerpt from another of the author’s books. All are well written, and complete within themselves. The scenes are perfectly, yet quickly described so that the reader can feel the reality of actually being in the intense story, while the characters could not be more real.
These stories have again shown Jackie Anton’s unique ability as a storyteller in another triumph.

Uncharted Storms are a selection of very well written stories about four different women. The stories are well developed and very entertaining. These well written stories provided very entertaining short reads. I would recommend this book to everyone. Jackie Anton tells a story very well.

Just such an adorable kitty! I love kittens, they're so snugly and cute. Mine is a year and a half now, his name is stormy and so love able. My other 2 cats are both 14 and love hugs!

A hilarious look at the important, strange, and fun lives of fat cells!

Alice Hutchison proves she has a deft hand at comedy in this hilarious romp through the lives and imaginations of fat cells. Not only is the book comedic, but she has created an entire world, complete with societal rules for these fat cells. It is a unique idea and one that anyone who admires creativity will enjoy. The book is separated into two parts. The first half of the book outlines the fat cells duties and feelings in the various parts of the body they inhabit. This section shows that Ms. Hutchison has done her research as parts of it almost read like a human anatomy book, but it is never off-putting! It more so is enlightening, like, "Wow, I never even thought about fat cells being THERE!" This section delves into some adult territory, so be advised that this work is best for mature readers. The second half contains the case files of a fat cell psychiatrist. This section of the book lets us actually meet various fat cells and hear about their problems. It humanizes the work and makes it more personal as the first half of the book is more abstract. Each case is accompanied by a charming (and sometimes hilarious) illustration by the author. The book as a whole is extremely creative and very funny. I would reccomend it for anyone who is looking for a body positive joke book that teaches everyone that fat is an essential - and funny - part of our lives.

The illustrations in this book are hilarious! They are done in a fun cartoon style reminiscent of the best newspaper funny pages, which makes flipping through the book enjoyable. The writing is witty, clever, and informative. It's refreshing to see a positive and light-hearted take on fat through the musings of the various fat cells in the human body.

Volume III is finally here!

Odd? Yes. Bizarre? Yes. Unsettling? Yep, in that good way that keeps you coming back for more. If you like short stories with a twist, you'll relish this book. Even in those stories where you can see the end coming, you're compelled to keep reading just to see exactly how the inevitable unfolds.

Stories for everyone

I’m huge on short stories and collections so I knew I had to read this batch. The author states at the end of the book that she drew inspiration form true events on all but two of the stories. That explains why one of them felt familiar to me.

Some are scary and some are twisted. A few had me grinning sardonically. All are good.

There are the nines sins or as the author titles them, The Nine Circles of Hell. Each delves into crimes and punishments.

Circle One: Limbo – The Cave Robber

You’ll have an encounter with a giant cave spider.

Circle Two: Lust – The MOnster Within

Meet Brian, “The unhappiest man in El Reno,” who’s plotting revenge against his neighbor.

Circle Three: Gluttony – The Battle of Gate Pa

Crawl with the Maori warriors through the first tunnels used in warfare.

Circle Four: Avarice & Prodigality – Boxed In

Be there when a kidnap victim turns the table on his kidnapper.

Circle Five: Wrath & Sullenness – Do Not Go Gently

A cancer patient who thought he’d live forever does not go gently. Vows to be the worst patient ever.

Circle Six: Heresy – The Final Victim

A Reverend needs one more sacrifice for Satan.

I enjoyed all of these stories and enjoyed the authors comments afterwards. She explained a bit about each of the stories that came from true events and then where she got her inspiration for the two that weren’t. It was fascinating.

And the pictures peppered throughout the book made it creepier.

While most of these weren’t truly scary, they did have sin in each one. I think I sinned a bit myself when I celebrated some of the characters deeds.

These would be great reads for when you have only a short time, but I’d set aside enough time to finish all of them. They do suck you in and keep you going from one to the next, to the next…

"This collection of disgusting, horrifying, and psychological thriller-based zombie stories is the result of a challenge. One night Kyle Clements and I decided we should write a novella. We came up with the idea of writing stories based on a weekly challenge. Each week we would send each other a single word, for better or worse. Regardless the word we had to write at least 1,000 words about the topic. The stories that came out of the challenge are the most terrifying, depraved, sincere, and utterly unreadable works we could have hoped for.

The idea was further based on Edgar Allen Poe’s recommendation that a short story should be read within a single sitting. Given society’s recent changes in attention span we realized 1,000 words in a single sitting would be the best most people could accomplish.

When I introduced the idea to my mother she was excited, until she read the first story. Then she said 'I liked your last work better…'

When I sent the novella to our beta readers their responses were typically a mix between, 'This is really great' and 'I couldn’t finish this story, it was just too disgusting.'

In the end, I think we adequately accomplished our goal. A challenging read that is both interesting and disgusting at once. It is our hope that you will both enjoy this book and also hate it; yet not demand a refund."

Shaun Phelps, MS Shaun is a Licensed Mental Health counselor, psychology professor, and parenting instructor. He has a large variety of credentials including a specialization in anger and trauma, and over 8 years of experience working in the fields of child welfare, domestic violence, substance abuse, and parenting. He received a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling (Clinical Mental Health) from Troy University and finished the coursework for a PhD in General Educational Psychology with Walden University. Shaun has been published in the professional field for his work in Parenting, and was previously released in Hunger Pangs: Dark Confessions and All Things Zombie: The Gathering Horde Kyle Clements is a writer, actor, filmmaker, composer and comic book model from Florida. I don't normally read short stories, however, this one was a very nice surprise collection of horrifying, thrilling and some downright disgusting zombie fiction.

This collection includes 20 stories written by Shaun Phelps or Kyle Clements with artwork by Dominique Divine on each story.

This compilation of stories was based on a weekly challenge by the authors to develop a story based on one word given by the other author. It is a fun little read when you don't have to time to read a full book.

I would not recommend some of these stories to those who have a weak​ stomach. Those of you who are not squeamish will definitely enjoy them.

My favorite story was Christmas Tree it is also the first story in the book. So give this book a chance and check it out.

Gruesomely amazing! Loved it!!!

I LOVE zombie stories! I love the books that get you so involved with the characters that leave you emotionally a mess when one of them dies. I fell in love with zombie stories way back when with my first movie…The Night of the Living Dead and then when The Walking Dead came out…I was in heaven! Every week I sit glued to my TV engrossed in each scene…waiting to see who will make it out alive. When I’m not watching zombie shows or movies, I am reading zombie books. I also LOVE short stories for those in between times when I just don’t want to get involved in a long book or I don’t have the time to really sit and get into one. Zombie Stories For Those With Short Attention Spans is one of the best…gruesome…bloody and creepy books filled with just what I love! Stories of zombies! The stories in this book will leave you shuddering…sick to your stomach(I wouldn’t suggest eating while reading this book) and might even leave you having nightmares BUT…I would highly recommend reading it if you…like me…LOVE anything and everything zombie!!! Shaun Phelps has quite an imagination with his descriptions of each story…leaving you with deeply disturbing images in your mind. But…THAT is what we zombie fanatics look for right? We want to have the scenes played out in our minds…just as if we were watching it on TV and this my friends is definitely one of those books. Please don’t hesitate to buy it because I know you will love it! You may be disturbed by some of them but in the end…you will be happy that you read them.

I already read more than the half of this book and honestly i could not wait to sit down and write a fast Review, because, People. if you like Zombies, you have to read this, you dont know what you are missing!
Each story is like a small drop of acid, concentrated and crazy, short but packed with hidden senses, some of them are obvious, others are hidden and you Need a litle bitt of time to let them sink in.

I loved Fungus because , really i dont know if in the end the mc turned or not, adored Herpes even if , really nobody wishes Herpes, this kind of Herpes was fun and shows the dark side of the human nature, especially the dark side of the animal called teenager...
Well, the Story with the large woman was somehow disgusting, but like a documentary movie that is really nasty you just have to keep watching so i had to keep reading about the human burgers...
Some of the Storys are a litle more spiritual, like the one about the father that notices that his son is dead only afther he himself turns into a Zombie, and the one with the baloons that dont rise because the sould is gone, the humans are filled with sins and not even there breath can rise to heaven...
I will keep reading, and re reading this stuff because it is just to fun to pass on!
